It’s 12:50 am, Thursday morning… guess where I am. I’ll give you a couple of hints… 1)I’m not at home in my comfy chair, 2)I’m surrounded by a whole lot of computers that aren’t mine. Yes everyone, I’m in the illustrious UCI 24 hour computer lab, the place we like to call NACS. God forsaken midterm!!!!
I’m soo tired… seriously, this time, I’m not even sure why I’m here. My mind isd running at a snail’s pace… if even that… I’m not sure if i’ll be able to absorb anything… I guess I’ll just type up my notes and pray to God that by some miracle the information finds it way into my subconscious.
Well, today was the UV concert. I can’t stop raving about Echo Point… I love them man. They’re sooo talented. I say Echo Point… u know…excluding me.. Cuz hehe… I’m just like a Garnet in the rough… not a diamond… a garnet, a semiprecious stone… Not quite the find of a lifetime, but not quite another grain of sand… I dunno… I’m delirious… Feels like my subconscious is closer to the surface than usual. Anyway… the concert was great… so much talent in Uniting Voices these days. Someone did a Beee-yooo-teee-full rendition of “Make Me Whole,” by Amel Larrieux (sp?). Absolutely showstopping… I love you UV!
And what was even better was that some of my fellow PUSO board members were there… so cool. It feels really good to have friends there to support… cuz, there were times when I felt like no one showed up… I dunno. Thanks guys.
UV needs to hook up and make a CD…hehe… I hope I’ll be able to make it to the retreat this weekend… shet.. so much happening!! Why can’t it all be at different times.
Well, I better get back to this freakin midterm… evil lurks in them thar hills… Why… dunno. Don’t ask me… the darker part of my mind is leaking out now….
Ever read that poem, “The Jabberwocky” by Charles Dodson? It’s in “Through the Looking Glass”
I love that poem…
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe.
All mimsy were the borogroves,
And the mome raths, outgrabe.
Beware the Jabberwock my son,
The jaws that bite, claws that catch.
Beware the jubjub bird,
And shun the frumious bandersnatch.
He took his vorpal sword in hand.
Long time the manxsome foe he sought.
So rested he by the tumtum tree,
And stood a while in thought.
(this is my favorite stanza)
And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgy wood,
And burbled as it came.
One, two! One, two! And through and through!
The vorpal blade went snicker snack!
He left it dead, and with its head,
He went galumphing back.
Hast thou slain the Jabberwock my son?
Come to my arms my beamish boy!
Oh frabjous day! Calooh! Callay!
He chortled in his joy.
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves,
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe.
All mimsy were the borogroves,
And the mome raths, outgrabe.
-Sorry if some of that is innaccurate… I did it from memory, and well no matter how good our memory is, it is still subject to change, unconscious or otherwise. Unless you’re that one guy “N” or “H” or something that I read about in Neurobio. This dude could be given a list of random numbers, a whole page long, and after looking through it, he could recite it without flaw. That’s not the most remarkable thing. When this guys friend inquired about the contents of that list some years later, “H” or “M” or whatever recalled the entire list… again without flaw. Remarkable isn’t it. Unfortunately, our seemingly blessed friend here found it nigh-impossible to function normally in modern society. This is due to that fact that the act of forgetting is a mechanism by which the individual determines that which is important, and that which is not. Those important things are stored and are never altered or anything, for fear of destroying valuable information. However, that which is unimportant maybe be left open to change. (i.e. the of color of a car that passed by the fire hydrant on January 16, 1992.) It’s kinda like how in a computer some files are left open and write-enabled, while extremely important files may be hidden and read-only.
Geez… sorry about that… Sometimes… I just wonder why…
Oh… what’s that… do I sense a release of Serotonin in my head?
And even after all this… Falling? Nah…
Hoozle…
