This is a statement from the marginalized -marginalized not due to skin color, or gender, or religious belief, but because of life outlook, because of world view, because of personal goals and philosophies.
This is a shout out to the “right-brained”.
We have been called lazy, slackers, good for nothings, day dreamers, loafers, and goof-offs. People tell us to get our heads out of the clouds, to get a “real” job, to give up on our dreams. “Why?”I must ask. Is it because you could not bring yourself to pursue your own?
You know, we’ve even been called crazy, screwy, loopy… not normal.
What the fuck is “normal” anyway. Is normal working away the rest of your life in a cubicle? Is normal working towards that house with the white picket fence and the 2.5 children only to stop striving once it’s attained? I can’t believe that. I cannot believe that we were meant to live on this earth and live cookie cutter lives. There must be a purpose for everyone.
But then again, perhaps one’s purpose is to slave away in a cubicle. To become one of the faceless throng.
And just as I do not want be looked down upon for rejecting that, I perhaps should not look down upon those that accept it.
What it really comes down to, though, is that I will no longer looked upon as “lesser.” I will no longer apologize for pursuing and developing my gift.
I will be proud of my small measure of talent and it’s accompanying large measure of passion.
